Hail Chavez

Oil on Canvas, 48”x 36”(2006)

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez may have smelled the “Sulfur of the Devil” during a UN General Assembly, but he should really Beware the Ides of March. “The painting draws from the lessons of Julius Caesar’s ambitions and his ultimate downfall at the hands of his assassins, and makes a comparison to Venezuela’s leader, Hugo Chavez.”

I utilized the imagery from the play Julius Caesar and made it relevant to the lives of Venezuelans.

Theme: The pride & ‘overvaulting ambition’ of a political visionary leads to his downfall.
